We have built a wood, metal, plaster and plastic world that is isolated from true natural reality. The real world of creatures, trees, rivers, mountains, geologic processes, growth and decay has been fenced off to a great extent from our human environments. It would be a shocking strangeness to encounter a little of that living animal truth within our sealed space. The paradox is that we ourselves are products of evolutionary wildness. The animal truth is within us, and, while it may be built over and hidden, it is inescapable. Confronting it in ourselves may make us a little mad. This is one of a series on wild animal encounters in human environments.
